packages of happiness and obi's quest to steal some kawaii

First, I want to thank all my kind friends who cheered me up since my last post! Thank you for making me feel better and I've realized that I was being a little baby for nothing. It's just a temporary blimp and everything will work out in the long run.

Thank you everyone!

As promised, this post is going to be about all the kawaiiness that I received in the mail last Friday! It was amazing to get home from a busy week, after attending so many group meetings and stressing over finishing my assignments to find these packages of happiness waiting for me!

Bag of goodies. What's inside!?

I didn't take a picture of the original packages since I was too excited to start ripping them open to get to the goodies. Instead, I just shoved them all into the original bag that some of them came in from one of the packages.

Glimpse of my kawaii goodies.

Dragon Kapibarasan plushies!!!

Here are the adorable Year of the Dragon Kapibarasan plushies. I was really happy to be able to find them! Being born the year of the dragon (and a huge fan of Kapibarasan), I obviously knew I had to get my hands of them when I found out that they were coming out with dragon-themed plushies. The keychains were bigger than that I thought and soo adorable! I can't tell which one is my favourite because they're all too cute in their own way (except the chick...).

The keychain plushes.

Before I continue any further, I have to tell you about Obi. He's such a funny dog, whenever I take pictures of my kawaii, he's always following me and watching me. He always want to snatch one of my plushies in hopes that I don't notice but I've learnt my lesson so I keep an eye on him. I also think it's because he loves getting his picture taken so whenever he seems me holding a camera, he runs up to me. From the moment we brought him home, he was never camera shy!

Today was no different, he was following me and eyeing my plush. I thought it was so funny and cute, that I took snapshots of him trying to steal my plush but because he's a good dog, he resists, which leads to him either staring at the plush or nudging it.

Exhibit A. Why can't I have one?

Adorable Usadaruma cellphone cleaning plush.

Look at these adorable little bunnies! I didn't know they existed until a month ago when I saw a friend post pictures of them. When I found out that they were called, "Usadarumas," I obsessively searched for them (in the only way that I knew how, googling like crazy). I found a few from a seller in Bangkok but she was selling it for way too much. Even then, I almost bought them. But luckily, my seller from Japan was able to find some for me at a reasonable price.

My favourite is the pink one all the way to the right.

Little Usadarumas.

Exhibit B. Just let me take one!

My seller was also able to find me a big Usadaruma plush! I was really happy with this one because I didn't expect it to be wearing an adorable little furry hat! It makes it more special than the regular plain ones, although I would like to get a plain one too one day.

Usadaruma is ready for the winter...even though it's practically over.

Exhibit C. What about this one?

Pancake Tuxedo Sam Plush.

This adorable Tuxedo Sam was first seen at the Sanrio.com website (I browse it when I'm bored. It's no wonder I'm having a hard time saving money). Although I'm not a huge fan of sanrio, there are some adorable plush there occasionally. My favourite characters from Sanrio are Cinnamoroll, Pom Pom Purin and Tuxedo Sam. It's not surprising that I really wanted this when I saw it. Although the price of the plush itself was reasonable, once you factored in shipping, it definitely wasn't. But because I'm persistent, I was able to get this little cutie for a reasonable price (I asked one of my flickr friends if she could find it for me and then ship it to me). If only I was as hardworking in my studies as my kawaii quests.

Butt View with his cute little tail (I have a thing for stubby tails).

Exhibit D. Maybe this one...

Pink baby usawan.

My last plush is a smaller pink usawan plush. It's really soft and the material is similar to a really soft towel but a lot of lint and stuff get stuck to it really easily. I have a larger black one and it was really annoying since I had to pick off the fluff off it all the time.

With my older and bigger black Usawan.

Exhibit E. But they're so fluffy....

In the end, Obi decided to steal everyone's slippers instead.

bye bye kawaii T_______T

There comes a time in every kawaii collector's life, where a horrible and awful, realization dawns on you...the fact that you have too much kawaii.

Unfortunately, this realization has hit me. I think it's been clear that I have too many kawaii plushes for a while but I was in denial. My room is packed with these adorable, cuddly kawaii goodies and they're taking over. My study desk isn't used for studying but for stacking my kawaii plushes on top of each other since I have no more shelf space on my bookcase. I also have two more boxes of kawaii goodies from swaps (coincidentally, from the same person) sitting my floor.

My mentality before I realized I was practically drowning in kawaii.

With a heavy heart, I realize I must sell some of my kawaii collection. The money will go towards my Asia trip this summer (where I will probably buy lots of kawaii stuff) since I thought my parents would help out, but it turns out...they're not. I've already posted the pictures on flickr so in an attempt to sell some more, I'm posting it on my blog as well.

95% of them have the original tags and they're all in perfect condition (I keep them in a container). For those that don't have tags, I'll let you know when you contact me. Shipping is a little high because Canada Post has a monopoly in the mail carrier business (other than FedEx and UPS, but they're way more expensive than CP).

Thank you to those of you who have already supported me by buying some of my items! I hope it was an enjoyable experience for you and I can't wait for you to get your items!

Let the shopping begin! Buy some stuff! Support my Asia trip!

chinese new year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Dragon Kapibara-san wishes you a Happy New Year!

Let's welcome the year of the dragon wish my wishes for your happiness, prosperity and good health!

As some of you know, tomorrow is Chinese New Year, or the Lunar New Year. It's going to be the year of the dragon, my year. Most people want their kids to be born in the year of the dragon because dragon children are supposed to be very lucky and successful. My mom told me that there are going to be a lot of Chinese babies being born this year.

In Chinese culture, the dragon is a symbol of power, strength, and good luck so it's not surprising that the Chinese emperor usually uses a dragon as symbol of his power.

In addition to being born under the year of the dragon, one can be born under different elemental dragons. According to Wikipedia, here are are the dates of each elemental dragon.

  • 16 February 1904 – 3 February 1905: Wood Dragon
  • 3 February 1916 – 22 January 1917: Fire Dragon
  • 23 January 1928 – 9 February 1929: Earth Dragon
  • 8 February 1940 – 26 January 1941: Metal Dragon
  • 27 January 1952 – 13 February 1953: Water Dragon
  • 13 February 1964 – 1 February 1965: Wood Dragon
  • 31 January 1976 – 17 February 1977: Fire Dragon
  • 17 February 1988 – 5 February 1989: Earth Dragon
  • 5 February 2000 – 23 January 2001: Metal Dragon
  • 23 January 2012 – 9 February 2013: Water Dragon
  • 10 February 2024 – 28 January 2025: Wood Dragon

According this schedule, I'm an earth dragon...not sure what it means though. People born under the year of the dragon are said to have certain traits. These traits are:
  • Innovative
  • Enterprising
  • Flexible
  • Self-assured
  • Brave
  • Passionate
  • Conceited
  • Tactless
  • Scrutinizing
  • Unanticipated
  • Quick-tempered

It seems pretty accurate since I am flexible, very detail orientated and quick tempered. Not sure about the other things though but my sister tells me that I'm full of myself all the time so I guess there must be some truth to it.

Anticipating the upcoming New Year, my mom decided to decorate our house with lots of red. Red, everywhere! I came home late last Sunday and the first thing I noticed was that there was red everywhere! And the house being dark, that's saying something.

First thing I saw when I came home.

In the peanut jar in the living room.

We have these flowers every year around the New Year. I'm not sure what they're called though.

In our candy "jar."

On the kitchen table.

Hanging from the lights in the living room.

I was going to take a picture of my adorable dragon luvvies plush for the New Year, but it disappeared a few months ago. It was always on my bed but I knew that Obi loved to steal plushies from my bed and run away with them. I'm convinced that he stole it when I didn't see him and hid it somewhere. I still haven't been able to find it, I've checked online to see where I can buy another one but I guess it's a limited edition or something since everywhere I check, it's always over $20. I bought it for $7 at a Hallmark near the uni.

Sniff...my super cute and soft dragon plush disappeared on me :'(

So I had to make due with this TY beanie baby that I got 12 years ago from my Godfather. It's not nearly as cute but it'll do since it's the only dragon plushie that I have.

In other news, it's Obi's birthday today! He's 1 year old. Time flies by so fast, I can't believe it's almost been a year since we brought the little fuzz ball home (we brought him home in mid-March).

Happy Birthday Obi!

huge kawaii post pt. 2

In my last post, I mentioned that I had a lot of kawaii items, and I do! But I decided to cut the post short because I had way too many items to post (and I was getting annoyed that it was taking me so long to publish my post).

So the continuation of my kawaii post starts with items that I received from Strapya World last week. I had ordered some dragon straps because I'm born the year of the dragon and I realized that I didn't have any dragon items, kawaii ones anyway.

With their free EMS shipping promo code back in November, the items arrived in a bit more than a week. Our post offices were closed during some of those days due to the holidays so I think they actually would've arrived even sooner.

Mini haul from Strapya World.

Tatsudoshi Dragon Netsuke Phone Strap

They had a few different variations of this keychain, I was a little torn between getting this one and the black dragon. I liked the look of the black HK dragon more but I didn't like the bell that was attached to it. Plus, I like the tear drop that came with this one more.

The Black HK Dragon strap.

I think this dancing dragon is my favourite one. I find it really cute that it's dancing and although I'm not usually a fan of straps with bells, I find its chiming kind of cute and the ring isn't loud. I also like the material that is it's made out of.

This is a ceramic dragon with a Maneki Neko (or Welcoming/ Beckoning Cat) riding on it. I think it's meant to be super lucky, since the Maneki Neko is meant to bring the holder luck and the dragon is also meant to be lucky.

And last but not least, is a pair of rilakkuma and korilakkuma keychains. This is from their coffee and chocolate series, which I believe is their newest collection. I'm normally not a fan of Rilakkuma and friends but I found this one really cute, especially the chocolate kuma with the teal ribbon. I especially like the colour of the ribbon!

If you're interested in any of the items that I got, you can click on my Strapya World link on the right of my blog under "Shopping."
